Hope, Resistance and Transformation

Every New Year, while eating the twelve grapes and making my wishes, I would ask for something new, different and unique. Well, I got it; we all got it this year. Maybe this year I will be careful with what I ask for. Because this year what I truly want the most is for things to be the way they were before.

Time, there never seems to be enough.

Oh how we long to be able to have more of it, to be able to rewind it or advance it- as if it were so easy. Have we really valued our time? Have we been able to recognize its magical powers? Or have we been carried away by it?

Sometimes we get carried away so fast, for so long, that we don’t even realize how much time has passed.

Oh how time has passed and here we are; we have reached the holiday season which can be difficult, and this year it will be even more for so many reasons. But let us remember that it is not the dates, nor the days, nor the hours, that we really remember or that really impact us.

What impacts us the most are the moments we live. What we remember the most of that particular day, of that one hour, of that singular moment is not “time.” It’s what happened in the moment, and also who was there to share the moment with us. We remember the smells, the sensations, the noises, the colors, the laughter, the tears, the images, the weather, the environment; we remember all that except for the date. Because when we live and let ourselves be carried away more by the moment and not by the time or the date, we allow ourselves to have and live an immersive experience. We allow ourselves to feel whole in the moment, even in those bad and sad moments.

We unconsciously know that moments are the ones we remember the most, which is why we try so hard to create unforgettable moments. That is why we also feel guilt and regret when we are not present in the moment due to being distracted by the things that life presents.

So why don’t we appreciate the moments until they pass?

Although lately moments have passed or have stopped passing, there is hope. We may not see it but it’s there. In my opinion, hope lives on, changes, and is reborn in transformation. However, hope does not remain without resistance. Hope can be lost, because it is fragile, if we do not feed it with strength and resilience. But if we can feed it with those ingredients, hope — little by little, moment after moment — is reborn and transformed.

I wish you a holiday filled with hope, resilience, and moments of transformation.
