Helping Thousands Navigate Grief – NBC Bay Area Proud

Each week in Northern California, NBC Bay Area’s Garvin Thomas profiles the people, the groups, and the companies making the Bay Area, and the world, a better place to live. Bay Area Proud stories are success stories; inspiring profiles of those making a positive change in our communities. Kara is grateful to be recognized as part of this select group and thanks the many individuals and organizations that provide the financial resources to ensure our grief support services are available for the community.  Additionally, a special acknowledgment goes out to Sheryl Sandberg for her kind and inspiring words about Kara.

We are especially appreciative of the hundreds of devoted volunteers who provide our peer support services and allow us to bring care, compassion, connection and community to so many each year who are grieving.  Each of you embody the words of Henri Nouwen;  “The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.”
