2022 Fund Appeal
Kara's annual fund appeal provides financial resources to support thousands of bereaved individuals and families in our Bay Area community. Challenged by the ongoing impact of COVID-19 , those who are grieving need care and connection more than ever. Your donation makes a healing difference.
Care for the Grieving
For over 45 years, Kara has been a compassionate friend that offers care to the bereaved in our Bay Area community. Our dedicated volunteer corps works alongside our staff to deliver accessible grief support to thousands each year. Our annual Year-end Appeal provides essential funds that enable us to offer our peer-based services at no cost to those we serve. Your gift empowers Kara to offer safe space, connections, and crucial tools that foster renewed hope and meaning for grieving children, adults, families, and organizations. The info at the right on mortality in the Bay Area underscores the growing number of bereaved individuals in our local communities. Your donation today will help Kara provide compassion and care to those seeking grief support, much like the experience shared by Ke’ili below
Ke’ili Deal, a past recipient of Kara’s services and a current Board member, shares the impact of our healing work:
I’ve been so fortunate to have Kara in my life for over 25 years now. My mother and I were referred to Kara after my father, Cameron, died by suicide in 1996.
The community of facilitators and other youth that I was introduced to in the peer support group helped me see that I was not alone in my experience and, as a 6 year old, provided me not only the language to describe my feelings, but also the confidence to do so. Through conversation, art projects, and the always popular “steam room”, a place for pillow throwing and the release of the physical manifestations of grief, Kara helped me to cultivate coping skills, resilience, and the desire to support others through their own grief journeys.
I am beyond grateful to have been able to receive services as a client of Kara’s, support others as a volunteer facilitator in a Youth and Family group, and now serve on the Kara Board of Directors. This organization has been incredibly impactful in my own life and I hope to be a small part of Kara doing the same in the lives of others.
...the peer support group helped me see that I was not alone in my experience and, as a 6 year old, provided me not only the language to describe my feelings, but also the confidence to do so.
Thank you for contributing to our 2022 annual fund appeal! As illustrated in Ke'ili's sharing above, your support provides grieving individuals and families the important care and connections that are beneficial in their journey toward renewed hope and meaning after loss. Your donations allow us to act on our guiding value of empathy and deliver hope and healing daily.
We are deeply grateful for your kindness and generosity.
