Walk in Memory of Loved Ones on Saturday, August 28

Join us at Kara's 5th Annual "At Your Own Pace" Walk. Walk in memory of a loved one who has died. Walk to honor someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one or who provides support to someone whose heart is broken. Walk to help sustain Kara's programs and services for those who grieve.

The walk will take place on Saturday, August 28. It begins and ends at Mitchell Park in Palo Alto. Registration opens at 10am and the walk begins at 11.

This is a 3-1/2 mile walk through a local residential neighborhood. Walk. Ride your bike. Skate or skateboard. You set your own pace and walk with others or in silent solitude among the crowd.

Raise pledges in any amount for Kara - as a team, as a family, as an individual. It's easy and makes a huge impact.

It's a lovely, easy event ... walk three miles through a flat residential neighborhood on a sunny summer day. Registration opens at 10am. Coffee and coffee cake are served pre-walk, with light lunch snacks after. You'll be finished by noon and know in your soul you've done a good thing.

Looking for Help Converting Kara's Web Site to Joomla

Kara is looking for a volunteer who can help us convert our current static website to a more dynamic Joomla-based website. (For the non-techies among us, Joomla is a content management system that will make it easier to keep the web site up-to-date.)

We are looking for someone with experience converting static websites to Joomla, who could provide Joomla tech support to the Kara staff person in charge of the current website and its conversion to this new system. We expect that this volunteer will work virtually for most of the project and attend a few meetings at Kara in Palo Alto.

If you or someone you know might be able to help, please contact Jim Mulvaney, Kara's Director of Special Projects (jimm@kara-grief.org, 650-321-5272, x24).

New Home Found for Youth and Family Services

We are pleased to announce that Kara's Youth and Family Services will be moving to a new home at the Downtown Community Center at All Saints' Church in Palo Alto at the end of July. The staff at All Saints' has made us feel very welcome and we look forward to getting settled in our new space. Our "Introduction to Kara" tours are on summer hiatus but when they resume in September, they will take place in the new Youth and Family rooms at the Downtown Community Center at All Saints'.

We want to thank everyone at First Baptist Church in Palo Alto for their past support of Kara. They have hosted our Youth and Family program since its founding in 1993, allowing hundreds of grieving families to receive much-needed support in a safe and comforting space.

Kara is the Gothic root of the word "care."
It means to reach out, to care, to lament, to grieve with.
